| Here be a personal note from Teacher Annie |
| Thank you for your interest in my preschool! I am a Montessori Certified Teacher/Directress, and I LOVE teaching children! Most of the teaching materials and methods of teaching, that are used in my preschool are Montessori; but it is not used exclusively. I have chosen to incorporate traditional and modern preschool tools as well. I believe that there are many wonderful ways to teach children. I also believe that there are many different ways in which a child learns. Some are visual or self motivated, while others may be doers or need hands on practice, etc. Each child learns in their particular way, and I want to have material and provide an environment in which all children can learn and excel. I believe in giving children a strong educational foundation, in which they can build and grow upon. A foundation that will lead them to learn and discover the many wonderful things that surround them. But the best discovery, the thing I hope they learn more than anything else, is that they really are A PRETTY BIG DEAL! Each one of them! They are all special and important and needed! This will be the MOST important lesson of all, the thing I hope to teach them, to help them discover about themselves above all else! I hope they will leave Miss Annie's and continue to learn and discover as they grow! I believe when they leave our program, they will be sure of themselves and their place in our mighty world. They will be prepared to not only enter their great world of Kindergarten, but prepared to continue along their personal journey; content, happy and filled with a desire to continue learning. They will succeed, because they can! |

| There are 3 main differences between Miss Annie's Montessori and other more child to be comfortable and stimulates their own awareness, and creativity. The use of ones imagination is a wonderful tool, and should be nurtured and grown in everyone! The second differences, is that we provide a more openly structured environment. One of the Motto's of Montessori is " HELP ME TO DO IT MYSELF." In a structured environment where everything has it's place and there is order, a child develops a sense of security, and confidence. They are able to develop skills in a non competitive way, thus developing new ideas, habits and appreciations, that are essential to their lifetime of learning. We do believe that there are some "basics" that each child should be encouraged to learn. We know that children have an incredibly absorbent mind, and that in providing the proper environment, they will enjoy learning, and excel. Our classroom is designed to meet the full development of children, addressing all aspects (physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual) of the whole child. Children choose their work from among the self-correcting materials displayed on open shelves, and they work in specific areas. Over a period of time, the children develop into a “normalized community,” working with high concentration and few interruptions. Normalization is the process whereby a child moves from being undisciplined to self-disciplined, from disordered to order, from distracted to focused, through working in the environment. This process occurs through repeated work with materials that captivate the child’s attention. In the Montessori classroom, academic competency is a means to an end, and the manipulative's are viewed as “materials for development.” Children who have been educated using the Montessori Method grow into competent learners who know how to learn and love learning. The solid foundation begun early in life creates a self-confident, contributing adult. Our third differences, is expense. It has been our experience that the word "Montessori" is often linked with phrases like "expensive". WE STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT PRESCHOOL SHOULD BE AFFORDABLE TO EVERYONE, ESPECIALLY THE MONTESSORI EXPERIENCE! When Maria Montessori developed her program, she did so for the "underprivileged" children in Italy and Rome. We believe there is something wonderful to be learned from that, and that Montessori should not just be affordable to the "upper classes". This is not meant as an offense to anyone, or that our standard in excellence is lacking, but as a testament of our dedication, to bringing an excellent and affordable preschool experience to every child! |
